Planning Post of evaluation question 1
The six conventions we have chosen to analyse
We have used
-Enigma code (the audience don't know why she is taking the pills)
-Binary opposition (contrast in locations, illness v's hospital, school and hospital)
We have developed
-Close ups (canted angle)
-Isolation (visiting grave, seems on her own)
We have challanged
-Untypical character types (female, age)
-Credit swap (titles at the end)
the screen shots we will use are
- Enigma code
-Binary Opposition
-close ups
-isolation
-untypical character types
-credit swaps

Planning Post of evaluation question 5
How did you attract/address you audience?
our tags to put on our video O
- we turned the saturation down on all of the footage that inst in the medical room. We did this because most of the footage was quite bright and by turning the saturation down it makes the color of the footage less extreme. This affects the audience as it creates a more melancholic atmosphere, darkening the mood and making it more eerie. XXX
-we crossed between the holding hands and the held flower using the same angle and distance. This shows that there is a correlation between the two scenes and makes the audience ask questions as why this is. Using a cross fade between the two locations shows they are linked but also makes the editing look more professionalXXX
- putting Luca in his school uniform, makes the scene more believable and realist and is more believable to the audience. XXX
-our protagonist wears casual clothing, which again is more believable to the audience but also gives the audience clues as to our characters social situation. The coat and leggings suggest that she is not of an upper class. She would therefore be more relatable to the our audience. XXX
-zooming into the flower, draws attention to it as the focus pulls onto it. This tells the audience that the flower is of some significance and they ask questions as to why this is XXX
-we slowed the footage down when the character is turning away, this makes the character look suspicious and the audience then question whether she is good or bad. The angle of the camera highlights this as form the side, it is very obvious that she is looking over her shoulder. XXX
- we used church bells over the top of the shot of the church. this adds to eeriness of the piece and makes it more effective. XXX
- we filmed the reflection in the mirror as it hides the face our our antagonist. XXX
- we used close up, canted angle shot of the pill pot on the floor. this added to the binary opposition as it shows the illness fighting the hospital environment. it also adds to enigma code due to the audience being unsure as to why she is taking the pills. XXX
- our audience can emphasise with the protagonist due to her familiar situation of her taking her child to school. many women would be able to relate to this as they do the same thing every day. this makes the audience more engaged with the film. XXX
- We used familiar locations such as the graveyard and the school so the audience could relate more to the story. This also makes the opening more realist.

Risk assesment
There are a number of risks we have to take into consideration whilst filming.
1. Risk of tripping over on the pavement outside the school and in the graveyard. We will try to avoid this risk by making sure there is not any miscellaneous objects on the ground.
2. Risk of Luca falling over whilst running during filming. We will make sure that his shoelaces are tied and there are no people in his way
3. Risk of being hit by pot of pills when it is thrown. We will make sure that there are not people visiting in the graveyard or any people in surrounding areas that could be hit. Also we decided that we wouldn't throw the pot directly in the graveyard because it could be seen as disrespectful, especially if it hit another gravestone
4. The school is near a road so we would have to take extra care when filming here to make sure that no one gets run over
5. There is also a risk of tripping over equipment, especially when the actors are walking from behind to infront of the camera/tripod. We will try to avoid this by clearing all unnecessary equipment and setting where the actors are to walk

Props
We have also added more props to our piece. We are still using the flower on the grave, but we have chosen to add in a pill pot. This is a key significance to our story line because it reveals the main character Elise's weaknesses.
Changes to location
Because we have changed our storyline we have had to consider new locations that would be suitable for filming shots.
we will be using newport primary school to film outside as this is the closest primary school and also the primary school in which the boy we will be using attends
We will still be using the graveyard which was previously mentioned, if we can get permission to film there. This is an birds eye shot of the graveyard we are hoping to use.

Costume
Due to the change of story line, the costumes have changed, we
have now decided to use casual clothes for the woman,
and school uniform for the boy. Here are some images
we wish to use.

New piece
Our new piece is called Elise. This is due to the song we plan to use, Fur elise. The main character in our opening is called Elise. We thought that this worked well because we were able to get a connection between the name Elise and the song Fur Elise which then would be a relevant theme tune for us to use.
Title music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_UOuSklNL4
We have decided to use this piece of music as our theme tune. It will be played slowly over our opening, it will be significant to the story as the main characters name is Elise. We are using this song as it has an eerie effect when slowed down. The audience may not recognise the song as it will be slowed down.

Change of story line
After speaking to our teacher about our storyboard we found that we were telling our whole story in two minutes and we were giving our whole plot away. We came up with a new plot but keeping some of the concepts that we came up with to start with.
We are more happy with this storyline and have come up with a more detailed story board which although breaks conventions creates tension and establishes the film more rather than telling the story.
We have decided to use a more psychological thriller this time instead of a murder because after looking over audience research, people do really enjoy psychological thrillers as seen in Rosalia's research.

Conventions in our opening
one convention we will be using is voyeurism, or the effect that someone is watching you. we will do this by using a hand held camera and a point of view shot, following the girl as she leaves the coffee shop.
(add screen grab)
(add screen grab)
Props
props will be very miminal. we will use different colored single roses, that will be laid on the grave. we decided to use different colors as this will contrast with the black and white footage we are planning to shoot.
Costume
our costumes will be simple but effective, with the girls being dressed in 'normal' clothing that a teenage girl would wear.
the man we though could be wearing a long black coat and a hat, which would create mystery but could also suggest that he doesnt want anyone to see his face or doesnt want to be recognised. however when he is alone and in his house, i though that he could be wearing more casual clothes, still black and maybe slightly scruffy to show that he is struggling with what he is done and cant live a normal life, not washing himself or his clothes.
also we decided that we would use make up on the man to make him look gaunt and almost 'dead' as the guilt is killing him. the make up would also make him look intimidating and quite scary and not a man that you could approach in the streets. he wouldnt look very welcoming.
Lighting
Lighting will be very important in our thriller to create the right atmosphere. we want to create an intense spooky atmosphere. we understand that this could be difficult as 2 of our locations are outside. we want to film at night but we know that if there is not enough natural light it will be difficult to pick out exactly what is going on. we need to find a balance between creating a dark eerie atmosphere and having enough light to physically film. this will also be the same in the dark room that we are filming. we thought that maybe using a single light on the character would give us enough light and create the intense thrilling atmosphere we are looking for. the lighting in the coffee shop could be easier because we are shooting during the day and there will be more natural light to work with.
we thought it would be interesting to edit some of our footage into sepia and black and white so lighting will be so important if we are going to make this editing work as if the footage is too dark the effects will not be beneficial.

Location
We have a couple if different locations for our thriller opening. The first of which is the graveyard that we will use when the man is laying flowers. We understand that this could be a bit cliche but it would be the only location we could use that would create the story and the atmosphere that we want. we want the audience to understand that someone has died but not the circumstance in which it happened and we thought that a graveyard would be the best way to do this as it is not intrusive like a church would be.
another location that will be appearing a couple of times is the room in which we see the man sitting. this room would be dark and empty. we thought that maybe a small classroom could be used for this if any furniture could be removed as this would be easier than using a room at a house full of furniture. the room will be empty to represent a sense of isolation but also give an eeriness too the scene and make the audience question where he is and why he is there.
the last location we will be using is a coffee shop. the girls will be sitting in here while the man is watching them. we decided to use a coffee shop as it is a usual place for teenagers to meet and teenagers could relate to coming here. but by also using a public place it makes the stalking situation seem more dangerous as they are surrounded by strangers.

Costumes
We plan to use simple, modern clothing. This is as it is set in the present, and the victim and her friend are normal young girls. The weather will be portrays as being cold, therefore the girls will be wearing warm clothing.
The girls will be using phones with high technology such as blackberry's and iphone's. This shows class, also that it is modern.
The male figure shown throughout will be portrayed in a differing way. He will be a shady character and his face wont be shown till later on. We want him to be wearing a big, dark coat which covers most of him.
We will also have him in black shoes which makes him seem more mysterious.
Lighting
I think that low level lighting throughout will be effective and add to the eeriness. Also low lighting will look good with the black and white and sepia tones we plan to use. We will use sepia in the flashbacks to represent that it was in the past, we think this will cause the audience to relate to the colour tones used. Also the flower will be in contrast, which will make it stand out. We plan to film in the daylight, this is so we can easily edit it to make it darker, whereas it is hard to create the appearance of natural light.
From this picture we can see that low lighting and black and white create shaddows and make the image look chilling, even if it isnt a particually scary picture. This is why we intend to use the effect, it adds to the suspense and tension as it looks sinister.
Props
The main prop we have chosen to use, is a simple, single rose. We wish to use different coloured roses and film the man placing one on the grave each day. This will show he is a regular visitor, but the use of one rose makes it mysterious as to why he only places one single flower. We plan to use contrast between the black and white filming and a coloured rose.
