First 5 mins of The Girl with the Dragon tattoo. Further analysis.

Camera - The establishing shot of the film is panning across a snow covered field then stops on a house which is like a log cabin. The house looks small and run down. The camera then quickly cuts to a man inside the house picking up the phone and starting an abrupt conversation. The quick change between the calm outside shot, and the frantic talking portrays that the tempo of the film changes. Suddenly the film cuts to quickly changing footage of water drops and the sea, the footage is very dark and spooky. These are the opening credits as they say "The girl with the dragon tattoo" in black writing.

Editing - The lighting is dark, which is a typical fear, adding to the tension of the film. Darkness could also imply the time of day (or night) which gives the audience a clue about what is going on. The quick, up tempo shots move rapidly from one to another creating a frantic effect. The credits are edited in a very effective way, a woman appears to be breaking through the ground covered in oil. This is a huge contrast from the first minuet which is more peaceful.

Mis-en-scene - The house looks run down, it is cold outside and covered in snow therefore the cabin looks inviting. The audience sympathise with the man as he looks like a sweet elderly man, and rather upset.

Sound - At the beginning of this thriller there is non diagetic music. It is a very slow, piano being played. There is a whistle of wind which can be heard as the camera pans across a snow covered field. This along with the music creates an eery effect as it is almost like a lullaby which seems innocent, it builds up tension for the audience. This music then carries on while you hear a phone ring and a man starts to have a conversation. The audience are thrown into something straight away that they don't know about which creates the fear of the un-known. The voice on the phone is slightly muffled causing the viewer to have to concentrate on what is being said. Rapid music starts suddenly with a choppy tempo which alters strongly from the before peaceful feeling. The non diaget music is a big contrast, it is now very fast and almost screamo music with a heavy base to it.
