The sixth sense analysis

First 5 mins.

Camera- Focus on a dimly lit light bulb at the beginning. See the woman coming down the stairs from behind a piece of wood. You see the woman, from a point of view shot as if someone is watching her. This adds tension as it makes it seem like she is not alone. The camera focuses on the fire, you can see the reflection of the couples faces next to the fire, makes them look warm. This could also insinuate that something bad may happen to them as fire is seen as a dangerous object. There is a  head and shoulders shot on the man to see his expression. This makes the audience focus on his face and upper body, from this they can infer emotions and feelings from his body movement. The camera pans onto broken glass on the floor then up to a smashed window, this is an example of them making the audience have to think about whats happened as they show the glass before the window, adding suspense. The camera then pans slowly into another room, building up the tension.

Editing- Dim lighting is used in the beginning, makes it look sinister, unfriendly and cold. There is then a fire which changes the atmosphere and makes it seem more inviting. Shots move slowly between one another so the film is not frantic, its more calm which is un-nerving.

Mise-en-scene- Woman is in a building that looks derelict. It is clearly cold but the woman is wearing a dress, this shows she is not prepared for the weather. The fire then causes a contrast because you see a reflection of their faces with a warm glow on them, therefore making a change in atmosphere. The main characters are drinking wine which gives the impression they may be celebrating or doing something special, this also could imply that they are upper class.

Sound- Non diagetic music, creates an eerie effect. The laughter of the characters shows that they are happy and joking around with each other. Diagetic beeping from the broken phone, builds tension. The woman's scream which makes the audience jump keeps building the tension for something to happen.

This films target audience would be male or female, its for people who enjoy a psychological ghost thriller. The film requires people keeping close attention of the film throughout.
