there are many conventions that when included, create a successful thriller. these include:
-a crime at the centre of the storyline. this is often a murder but it doesn't have to be
-a complex narrative, with false leads, clues, mysteries and conclusions
-a narrative which establishes enigmas which the viewers expects and want to be resolved
-a lead character that is less powerful and that is drawn into the storyline by the antagonist of the story
-interesting and unique situations occurring in ordinary situations
-themes of identity
-themes of mirroring
-themes of voyeurisms (the feeling of constantly being watched)
-the lead character having a flaw which is constantly exploited by the antagonist
-titles referring to a characters psychological state
-a scene near the end of the film where the lead character is drawn into a perilous situation
-mise en scene which reflects the lead characters plight
