Evaluation of the preliminary task.

From the preliminary task we learned some good techniques, also we found out things to avoid for our thriller opening such as unsteady camera footage and cheesy parts. We also discovered that it is hard to keep a straight face when filming with your friends, due to this we have decided to use someone else in our opening so it looks more serious. We each got to use the camera to film bits of the prelim piece, this made sure we all got to grips with using the camera. Using the cameras and getting used to them was a great benefit as it will be easier for us to use them straight away when filming our real piece, we learned how to set up the camera, how to make it steady. We also experienced the difficulties you can get with lighting such as dim lighting or over exposed. To change this we would need to look at the location more carefully. Another issue we experienced was that hand held camera is not good to use unless you are it is for a particular effect, we used hand held camera to track the characters feet, which we plan to use panning on the feet in our actual piece as that is just moving the camera that is already on the stand, rather than having to hold it. Due to the hand held footage being unsteady it didn't look as professional as we wanted. This is something we will improve on.
One thing that went well was we managed to film the whole thing in under an hour, meaning we used our time wisely and didn't waste any. This was due to our carefully thought out plan, we knew what we were doing and where just from looking at the plan.
Overall our prelim task was very successful and gave us a good insight to what filming will be like in the future. The whole group got to lean from the experience of it.
